Working with vulnerable and marginalized people can lead to feelings of helplessness and overwhelm. When facing the enormity of complex problems and adversity, you need ways of working that will deeply help others and simultaneously sustain you in the struggle.
This interactive 3-hour workshop introduces you to The Resilience Toolkit, a culturally responsive framework for reducing stress, addressing trauma responses, and building resilience in individuals and groups. Using a carefully curated suite of mind-body practices, discover how to recognize and settle your personal stress activation before it overwhelms you and compromises your impact. You’ll learn how to tell if you need a tool, which tools to choose for your specific circumstances, and how to know if they’re really working! The Toolkit teaches you how to effectively rest and recover so that you can sustainably engage in both work and life, better able to competently address the needs of your program participants.
The Toolkit’s creator, Nkem Ndefo, will share this innovative framework and provide opportunities for you to experience and practice the skills. She’ll discuss how The Resilience Toolkit has been successfully implemented in programs for both staff and participants across a variety of sectors. Together we’ll explore what implementation looks like for you in your own lives, in your organisations, and in your communities.
