Alliance World Cafe: Cultural Translations

In this unique conversational format, we will explore an overarching topic through two un-facilitated conversational rounds. Each round focuses on a new question carefully crafted to build understanding incrementally. By rotating to a different small group for each round, there is an organic flow of insights and cross-pollination of perspectives.

The Alliance World Cafe gathering is one of the many events we host as part of our Seasonal Themes in the Alliance Mighty Networks space. Each Alliance World Cafe gathering will be hosted by a Certification Trainer who will welcome Alliance members, facilitate a connecting practice, manage the two breakout room rounds, and bring folks back together at the end to share back into the whole group as much or as little as they like.

We are hosting our first Alliance World Cafe gathering in October, during our Fall (North) / Spring (South) 2024 Seasonal Theme: Cultural Translations

Cultural translation preserves the essence of a practice while modifying its expression to fit a new cultural framework by making necessary adjustments to ensure the practice is understood, relevant, and appropriate to the new culture. 

Fall 2024 host: Mikaela Johnson Vaal

Fall 2024 questions: 

• Round 1: Where are you noticing a need for cultural translation? What types of adaptations have you made?

• Round 2: How successfully have your adaptations provided needed cultural translation? What have you learned about the Toolkit, the people you work with, and yourself through this process? What additional curiosities are arising?

Come bring your ideas, experiences, curiosity, and wisdom as we co-create a gentle, connected space to expand our understanding, surface new perspectives, and accompany one another in our learning.
