Building Evaluation Literacy Through a Shared Approach

How do we know what participants are getting from our Toolkit offerings without every Facilitator having to create their own evaluation from scratch?

The Toolkit Training Alliance is developing a simple, shared approach for gathering feedback across Toolkit programs around the world. By asking participants the same core questions, while also capturing basic information about what they participated in, we can begin to understand not only what is happening in individual programs, but what we are learning about the Resilience Toolkit as a whole.

In this session, Nkem will introduce the new evaluation system and some of the thinking behind its design. Along the way, we’ll explore some evaluation basics in plain language: why information about the structure and context of an engagement matters when interpreting participant feedback, how evaluation can distinguish between what was delivered and what changed, and why asking fewer, more intentional questions can often tell us more. We’ll also consider how the participant questions were chosen to reflect capacities the Toolkit is intended to develop.

You do not need any previous experience with evaluation. The goal is to make gathering meaningful participant feedback easier for Facilitators while strengthening what we can learn together about the reach and impact of Toolkit work.
